Summer Koi Health
  • Now that the water temperature is above 70, you should be feeding a high protien food with color enhancers, and stabilized vitamin C  (we reccommend Dainichi Premuim)  Once temperature drops below 70 switch back to All season wheat germ food.  Small feedings a few times a day is better then one large feeding, keep em hungry.
  • Test weekly, fully mature filters should be keeping Ammonia, & Nitrite at zero.  PH should be between 7 - 8.  Total alkalinity is best over 100 PPM, this feeds your bacteria in the filter
  • Clean filter weekly, if you have to clean pads or balls, be sure not to use chlorinated water it will kill your active bacteria that you have worked so hard to develop.  Clean media in a bucket of pond water or well water.
  • Verify that UV lights are working, you should see the ends glowing at night.  If your water is green your UV is not working.
  • Monitor your fish for any unusual behavior, like flashing, jumping, or hanging on the bottom with clamped fins, all are signs that there may be a problem.
  • Continue to add microbe lift bacteria, and Koi zyme to keep a healthy enviornment.  Test, test, test.....or the only way you will know there is a problem is when your fish tell you!
